About Velaris Brief

An independent publication on geopolitics, security and world news.

What we publish

Velaris Brief publishes world news, analysis and opinion. Our main areas are Ukraine, Russia, the EU, NATO and European security, the Black Sea, the Western Balkans, and Croatia’s place in the wider European security environment.

We aim to give context and connections that are often missing from mainstream reporting, and to keep clear what is reported, what is analysed and what is opinion.

Who writes it

Velaris Brief is written by Hrvoje Pavić.

How content is labelled

Analysis interprets events and states the evidence it relies on, including what the evidence does not show.

Opinion is signed commentary and reflects the author’s view.

Investigations are original research into documents, money and networks.

Fact-checks examine a specific claim against public evidence.
